Internationally, one of the major programmes is conquering blindness The Lions ambitious SightFirst Programme has restored sight through cataract surgeries, prevented serious vision loss and improved eye care services for hundreds of millions of adults and children. To continue and expand this effort, Lions have launched Campaign SightFirst II, with a goal of raising at least US$200 million.
At National level, major projects include suicide prevention, drug and alcohol awareness initiatives, youth outreach and sporting projects, senior citizens holiday camp Trabolgan, Cork.
Our Achievements:

- Swords Senior Citizens (Lions Holiday Project at Trabolgan, Co Cork ;
- Defibrillators for Order of Malta, Senior Citizens Centre and BASE;
- Youth football & basketball; Youth Services; Ar Chroi Family Support Group (eating disorder sufferers); CARI (Children at risk in Ireland).
- We arrange the Annual Christmas Food Appeal each December in JCs Supermarket Dunnes Stores and Super Value in the Pavilions
- New initiatives of ours with local secondary schools this year included the installation of water filters for drinking fountains into Colaiste Choilm CBS, Loreto College and St Finian’s College, to promote drinking fresh water.
- In addition, students of these schools plus Fingal College collected old spectacles from home – which were sent on through the Lions international system, fixed and cleaned and made available for needy third world peoples
- A pilot project, in Colaiste Choilm, saw transition students learning to make presentations to their younger school colleagues on the dangers of alcohol abuse.
- Teacher training and necessary equipment has already been provided through Dublin Lions Club who have a number of schools doing this over the past few years.
